Blair
Buswell's monumental wagon train "Pioneer Courage" streches
across the city block of Pioneer Courage Park in downtown Omaha, NE.
It shows the wagon train crossing the frontier, experiencing the wilderness
of the prairie for the first time.
"The main objective of 'Pioneer Courage' is to tell the story
of the hundreds of thousands of pioneers who migrated to the West
. . . . We also wanted to encourage people to participate in the sculpture,
to imagine what it must have been like to be a pioneer. I can't think
of a better way to experience that journey than to fall in line and
walk a few steps with a larger-than-life wagon train. It's the closest
most people will get to a team of oxen in their lifetime . . . . This
is a big project, it is my Mt. Rushmore." - Blair Buswell, Sculptor
Portions of "Pioneer Courage" are also available separately
in the small sculptures "A New Beginning",
"Daddy Daughter Date",
"Prairie Flowers", "Right
Lead", "Ol' Sadie",
"The Wagon Master", and
"Fighting Heart". |
